Honey, Creamed Honey, Lipbalms, Candles and more.
Meet us at the next Craft Show, Fair, Festival, or Market.
For several years we talked about adding a bee hive to our yard to improve pollination of our garden and fruit trees, being avid gardeners since 1987 and canning over 250 quarts a year.
With the encouragement of the Lorain County Beekeepers Association and their awesome bee barn displays at the Lorain County Fair, my husband registered for the Beginner Beekeeping Classes held every March. After the first 2 classes, he reminded me it was a family membership, and I was welcome to attend classes with him. After helping him with our first bee installation, hive checks throughout the summer, and extracting some honey our first year, it was an easy answer for him when he asked me what I wanted for Christmas. The answer was my own hive!
Many years later, we have bees in 3 different locations and our possible pollination project has turned into a very enjoyable hobby. Now we just both need to retire so we have more time to spend with our hives. Our garden and fruits are doing very well, and the birds are enjoying the abundance of cherries at the tops of our trees. We let the honeybees recycle the honey from the wax cappings, then render the wax into beeswax lip balm, lotion bars, hand creams, mustache wax, soap, and candles. As of today, I am still not that interested in working with the propolis.
As a result of our beekeeping, we both are very actively in promoting beekeeping education through Lorain County Beekeepers Association, Medina County Beekeepers Association, Greater Cleveland Beekeepers Association, Tri County Workshops and Ohio State Beekeeping Association.
